What is the Multiverse?
To understand the multiverse you first have to understand the universe.
We live on Planet Earth,
A small ball of rock in that orbits a bright star called the Sun, We call this area the solar system.
This area is part of a much bigger area called the Milky Way Galaxy, in the milky way Galaxy, there are an estimated 150 - 200 Billion stars/suns in this Galaxy alone, many of these starts will have planets like Earth orbiting around them.
Every single point you see in the above video is a galaxy, containing anywhere from many millions to trillions of stars; the largest among them are thousands of times the mass of our Milky Way. And still, this amazing flight through the Universe, above, only shows us somewhere around 0.0002% of the galaxies visible to us in our Universe!
Another you?
Our Universe is so large we could not even begin to comprehend its true size. Scientists and Mathematicians have managed to calculate that due to the vast size of the universe there are two versions of you that exist in the universe.
Think of you as a group of chemicals and atoms, a Jigsaw if you will. What creates you is a series of atoms grouped together in a specific way. This creates your uniqueness. Because of the vast number of differential equations in your makeup, it would be impossible to duplicate you on Earth, Twins, of course, being the exception. However, mathematicians have calculated that because the universe is so vast the likelihood of those calculations that create you would more than likely be repeated somewhere else in our own universe.
So back to the multiverse!
So what is the multiverse, the multiverse is a theory that many other universes exist parallel to our own universe, some are different to our own some are exactly the same.
There is a widely held view that for every action you take in this universe, another you will take the exact opposite action in a different universe on a different Earth.
So how does the multiverse work?
nobody knows how the multiverse works, we don't even know how our own universe works. The widely held belief is that there are no limits to the multiverse, like the idea that our own universe continues to expand the multiverse continues to grow.
There are various ideas about the multiverse, I will attempt to give a few examples below,
1. For every decision you make on this Earth, another version of you in a different universe makes the opposite decision.
2. You parents never met thus you don't exist in 1 of the other universes.
3. World War 2 never happened.
4. The dinosaurs never went extinct, so humanity never existed.
5. When our solar system was being created Earth was situated too far away from the sun so no life on Earth exists.
6. In another universe, Germany won World War 2.
7. You partner was never born so you never married them and married someone else and had children with them.
The list is endless because the idea of the Multiverse is endless.
How do they differ from our own?
Imagine the Earth we live on is Prime,
A universe that is very similar would be called Prime -1.
Prime-1 would be almost identical to our own universe, you would still be married to the person you loved, your parents would still be your parents. Any differences would be slight, for instance on Prime Earth your toothbrush is red. On Prime-1 your toothbrush is blue.
The further down the -primes you go the more different the other Earth looks to your own, for instance, if you went to Prime -600 the Earth there would be unrecognisable to your own.
Is there any proof of the Multiverse?
Scientists are just starting to discover or created a hypothesis that the multiverse does indeed exist. Sadly because we cannot travel to one we will never know what is contained in another universe or how many there are. If one exists though its safe to say there are many more, perhaps endless amounts.
Schrödinger's cat
Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. It illustrates what he saw as the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics applied to everyday objects
Some light reading
Strange behavior of quantum particles may indicate the existence of other parallel universes
Atoms can be in two places at the same time
The theory of parallel universes is not just maths – it is science that can be tested
Multiverse: have astronomers found evidence of parallel universes?
There is also something you can consider also.
Have you ever had De Ja Vu, or looked at something and thought, I don't remember it that way at all? This is attributed to the multiverse. If time is constant at a certain speed in this universe it does not have to be at the same constant speed elsewhere. For example, it is 31st October here in this universe but in Prime-4 it is already December 12th. Sometimes we can tap into the subconsciousness of our other selves and when the moment happens that already happened in the multiverse we get a sense of de ja vu. An event that has already happened elsewhere.
Dreams and reality changes.
When you dream it is possible to tap into the other you in your other reality, here you can see and sense the things the other you have done or seen in their own reality, if you have ever experienced a moment where you thought an event was different from what you can remember then this can be because your consciousness never left you alternative self and you have in some ways body swapped with them into a different universe and earth. Everything will seem very similar but it will be the odd difference that you will notice. People call these differences, "The Mandella Effect".
