Does God exist, is there life after death?

The ultimate question of our lifetime, one that we can't really answer and something we have to have faith on.

All too often its easy to confuse religion with God and God with religion, the two are much more different and do not necessarily go cap in hand.

Science tells us that before the Universe was created, (Key Word - Created) there was nothing, so out of nothing came something. This tells us that a creation was born, was God the creator?

I look at God as a powerful force that binds the universe together, within ourselves I see God as the love we have for our family and loved ones.

Each and every one of us wants to have an afterlife, we all want to live on. Who doesn't want to see their long-lost loved ones again, who doesn't want to live in eternal happiness?

Whilst we have no proof of the existence of God, what we do have are stories and claims from those who have passed to the other side and returned. Their testimonies again rely on us to use faith to believe them. We can, of course, look at the background of those making the testimonies and judge for ourselves.

We also have the other side of God, evil. Evil exists and we can see it in everyday life. Not everyone is evil, not everyone is good. What we can see quite clearly though is that there is a constant battle between good and evil, something that has always existed and something we can all see.

Before I wrote this OP which I had planned to do, I came across a tweet that was concerning a piece wrote 8 months ago. It's a story I had heard previously when it first appeared back in 2008. I only mention this because how strange it was to have the idea of the post in mind only to discover a tweet to a story that fits this thread perfectly.

I will post the story at the end of the post, but before I do I ask those of you who have kindly read this thread to vote in the poll and to also give your reasons below. Let's have a conversation on this very issue.

Does God Exist?

The question of where we go after we have died has been one of humanity's greatest mysteries for centuries.

One man who claims to know the answer or at least has an inclination of what might happen is the brain surgeon, Dr Eben Alexander.

In 2008, Alexander fell into a week-long coma and has documented what he can remember from this event in a new book called Living in a Mindful Universe: A Neurosurgeon's Journey Into the Heart of Consciousness.

In the book Alexander claims to have experienced a sensation that felt like he was ascending to the heavens or something of that equivalent.

At the time he was suffering from a brain infection known as meningoencephalitis, which left him at two per cent chance of staying alive.

Even doctors told his family that he was about to die and was placed on a medical ventilator to preserve him for a little longer.

It is at that point that he began to experience unusual activity.

The 63-year-old reportedly says that a light came down from above and he began to hear music.

As for notions about the afterlife, the Abrahamic concept is implicitly based on the assumption of an undivided self.

But we're not a unified whole.
